Core facilities for gene therapy research
Funding from the Social and Health Directorate supporting gene therapy research at the Norwegian Radium Hospital has made it possible to create a core facility for gene therapy. A separate lab for gene therapy research has been established. The lab is customised to deal with molecular research; cell cultures, and contains special lab facilities for retrovirus and adeno-virus work. In addition it has facilities for handling clinical material. The gene therapy lab. is in compliance with general regulative requirements for gene therapy work, and has been approved by the authorities. Researchers from a number of different departments at the Cancer Institute are currently using the core facility. A lab. for gene sequencing technology with a MegaBace-500 sequencing instrument is another core facility that has been running since February 2001.

Facilities for clinical gene therapy
Two separate patient rooms at the Department of Medical Oncology have been allocated to gene therapy and approved by the authorities for gene therapy trials. The Department of Clinical Cancer Research also has study nurses and doctors dedicated to clinical gene therapy research.
